I have 20 years experience as a creative designer for a number of successful agencies in London and Surrey. I have been actively involved in projects for many large organisations, covering all aspects of design, from branding and print to internal campaigns. I pride myself on being a conceptual, ideas based designer. Strong, creative ideas were instilled at art school in Norwich and this approach to design is something I strive to continue.
Experience of large branding and implementation projects to integrated campaigns, including editorial and corporate literature has been hugely beneficial to my career.
I am comfortable working individually, or as part of a team where I actively contribute to brainstorms, develop ideas which can be quickly implemented. I have experience heading a team, working closely with digital designers and programmers, delegating roles, overseeing and preparing presentations.
Employment
history
2006 – to present
Chaos
Senior Creative
Chaos are a top 50 creative agency in the UK.
During my years at Chaos, I worked across a range of enterprise clients including EY, Canon, Sony, Heathrow, Allianz and Zurich. I also relished the opportunity to work with SMEs and entrepreneurial/start-ups.
As senior creative, my role included attending initial briefings, final presentations, concept creation and development, right through to day-to-day implementation. I am experienced working in both B2B and B2C environments, across internal and external channels. Working closely with other teams/people within the agency, such as digital, strategy and PowerPoint specialists, was crucial to project successes. This ensured all concepts translated across media, without the risk of being diluted. I have successfully delivered projects across several key pillars – corporate and marketing communications, advertising, experiential and branding. I have valuable experience in creating guideline documents, which require advanced design skills along with an eye for detail and an in-depth knowledge of brand identity. This includes all aspects of establishing a brand from developing the strategy (brand proposition and positioning) to the look and feel, and rules of implementation. I am equally at home working to existing client guidelines, and adopting these and adapting where possible.
I thrive when working to a deadline and can be trusted to lead a team, delegating roles to achieve a successful end result.
Whilst at Chaos I attended a DBA presentation skills course, where I learned how to successfully prepare for presentations and had the opportunity to further develop my client facing communication skills.
2004 – 2006
Mirror Image
Senior Designer
I was delighted to be asked to return to Mirrorimage after a period of freelancing as a designer. I lead the team on the Vodafone account, focusing on their B2B communications. This included a whole variety of projects, from campaigns, internal promotions and events to editorial (internal magazines), corporate literature, direct mail and web. As the lead designer on this account, I developed the business guidelines, which gave me valuable insight into the creation of a brand.
2001 – 2004
Freelance
Whilst freelance I worked for a number of agencies including Gyro and the internal design department at PWC. This freelance period was hugely beneficial to my career, giving me independence, experience of different working environments and strengthening my communication skills. During this time I worked for a number of clients including Adobe, Vodafone, Hitachi and PWC.
2000 – 2001
Turnbull Ripley
Senior Designer
Turnbull Ripley were specialists in corporate communications and I spent much of my time on literature systems for large multi-nationals. Attention to detail was crucial as consistency across all literature was vital. The hierarchical nature of these literature systems gave me invaluable knowledge of creating a total brand look and feel. Clients included AXA, Reed Recruitment and United Airlines..
1994 – 2000
Minale Tatterfsield
Designer
Minale Tattersfield & Partners were always champions of the ‘creative idea’ in design. This was the ideal place to start my career, working for clients such as The Royal Armouries Museum, NatWest, Northern Food, Express Dairies, The National Lottery and the Cabinet Office.
I was promoted to head designer on the MD’s team, leading a team of designers on the NatWest account. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Minale Tattersfield, but after 5 years I decided to move on.
